About
More than wood and wire
At LH Grand, we believe a piano is far more than wood, metal and strings. Every instrument carries its own memory, personality and voice — shaped by the hands that have played it and the places it has lived.
Our role is not simply to restore pianos, but to act as custodians of their stories. Each restoration honours the heritage of the instrument while ensuring it can inspire future generations.
Through careful restoration, flexible leasing and a deep respect for craft, we invite people to experience pianos as unique voices that connect past and present.
At L&H Grand we don't see pianos as commodities; we see them as living artefacts with memory, presence and personality. Each instrument carries its own story, shaped by the hands that have played it and the places it has lived. Our role is not simply to restore pianos, but to act as custodians of their stories — and to connect them with musicians, venues and collectors who will cherish them.
Welcome to LH Grand
We don't see pianos as commodities; we see them as living artefacts with memories, resonance and personality.
Each instrument carries its own story, shaped by the hands that have played it and the places it has travelled. Our role is to give these classics new life, and to connect them with musicians, venues and collectors who will cherish them.
The LH standard
Four things we will not compromise on
Heritage
Every instrument carries a story. We honour that history, preserving the legacy that makes each piano unique.
Craftsmanship
Traditional methods meet meticulous attention to detail. We use original techniques to honour 180 years of accumulated knowledge.
Accessibility
World-class pianos shouldn't require ownership. We make extraordinary instruments available for your home through flexible leasing.
Sustainability
We give new life to exceptional vintage instruments, preserving musical heritage for future generations while honouring the past.
When asked to restore a piano, whether it's a concert grand or an upright, it is always personal to us and our goal is always the same: to restore the piano to how it was when it was new. It isn't about creating something beautiful — it's about restoring the original character and charm of the piano. For us it's all about respect and performance. Not just a new lease of life, but a second season. Every piano's story is unique. It is the sound and the soul of everything we do.
Stewardship, not ownership
Our philosophy rejects the transactional. We seek custodians who understand these instruments are borrowed from history. You don't own the piano — you care for it, play it, let it sing, then pass it forward enriched by your touch.
Living artefacts with stories
Every piano carries documented history, from concert halls to private salons. We don't just lease instruments; we connect you with living artefacts — each with its provenance, its restoration story, and the hands that played it before yours.
Restored by master craftsmen
Marcus Hawley and Paul Leverett bring decades of restoration expertise to every instrument. From soundboard repairs to action regulation, each piano undergoes meticulous restoration — preserving its soul while ensuring modern playability.
Our process
Every L&H Grand piano undergoes a meticulous restoration journey: new bespoke soundboards in premium alpine spruce, complete action restoration using original techniques, new tuning planks for long-term stability, hand-finished cabinet work, and expert voicing to bring out each piano's character. When an instrument goes out on hire, the same care applies — survey, delivery, positioning, tuning and collection, all handled by our own team.
- 1
Survey
We check access, floor levels, doorways and parking before the hire is confirmed.
- 2
Delivery
Specialist movers, purpose-built equipment and full protection in transit.
- 3
Positioning
The instrument is placed exactly where you want it, then levelled.
- 4
Tuning
Tuned on site after settling, so it sounds right when it is played.
- 5
Collection
Removed with the same care, at a time that suits your venue.
The makers we work with
C. Bechstein — founded in Berlin in 1853 and favoured by Liszt and Debussy, known for singing tone and refined touch.
Julius Blüthner — Leipzig, 1853, and the patented aliquot stringing that gives Blüthner grands their warm, shimmering resonance.
Yamaha — the CFX concert grand, handcrafted in Kakegawa and chosen by winners of the world's leading competitions.
Insurance
Our policy covers the piano while it is on site, with a £250 excess. You may add a one-off £50 excess waiver. The waiver does not cover damage in transport; because we arrange delivery and collection, transport risk remains with us and our appointed mover.
